STATUS
CYMBAL is the String Quartet with a difference. As well
as playing the works of the great composers for the medium,
it has its own unique library of sparkling and witty arrangements
of all kinds of popular music from Opera through Swing and
Jazz to the great Musicals, Pop hits and Rock classics.
The
idea of this most traditional classical line-up playing
familiar modern tunes intrigues and delights audiences of
all ages and walks of life. As a result, the schedule now
embraces concerts, all kinds of function both corporate
and private, together with entertaining in hotels and restaurants
and on board cruise liners. TV and radio credits include
the BBC Radio 2 Arts Programme and Central Television's
Pot of Gold, the peak time network ITV show hosted by Des
O'Connor.
A
STATUS CYMBAL performance is a unique occasion. A traditional-style
first half, presented in formal concert attire and featuring
works for the genre by the great classical masters. (Recent
performances have included the Dissonance by Mozart and
Beethoven's third Rasumovsky quartet.) During the interval,
the members then slip into something more comfortable in
order to play music from their extensive repertoire of arrangements
in a more popular vein.
After
more than ten years of existence STATUS CYMBAL has become
one of Britain's most experienced string quartets working
in the field of corporate and private entertainment, whether
it is a conference, office party or wedding. It has played
in all kinds of venue from building site to stately home,
including restaurants, leading hotels such as the London
Ritz, and some of the world's most prestigious cruise liners.
In 1999 for example, after a successful summer contract
in Alaska on board the Dawn Princess, the quartet performed
at numerous weddings, was engaged by Norwich Union for a
week-long conference at the Assembly Rooms in Worthing,
entertained passers-by in shopping centres in Bristol and
Birmingham and was asked to play at several Xmas office
parties, including one at the Chelsea FC football stadium.
